Outlook 2007 is not installed when you install a trial version of a 2007 Office suite

Note If you intend to install a trial version of Office Professional 2007 or Office Standard 2007, but have not yet done this, see the "If you have not yet installed the trial version of 2007 Microsoft Office" section.

If you have already installed the trial version of Office Professional 2007 or Office Standard 2007, but Outlook 2007 is not installed, you must remove the earlier version of Outlook from your computer before you can install and run Outlook 2007.

Step 1: Remove the earlier version of Outlook

  1. Depending on which version of Windows is installed on the computer, follow one of these steps:
    • Windows XP: Click Start, and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
      appwiz.cpl
    • Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click Start

      Start button
, type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER:
      appwiz.cpl
Note There is no Add or Remove Programs item in Windows Vista. The equivalent in Windows Vista is Programs and Features.
  2. Click the Office suite that is installed in the Currently installed programs list, and then click Change.
  3. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
  4. Click the drop-down list to the left of Microsoft Office Outlook, and then select Not Available. The enabled items will remain installed. The items marked "Not Available" will be uninstalled.

Step 2: Install Outlook 2007

  1. Depending on which version of Windows is installed on the computer, follow one of these steps:
    • Windows XP: Click Start, and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
      appwiz.cpl

  2. Click the trial version of the 2007 Office suite in the Currently installed programs list, and then click Change.
  3. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Continue.
  4. Click the icon for Microsoft Office Outlook, and then click Run all from My Computer.

If Outlook 2007 is installed correctly and is now running on your computer, you are finished. If Outlook 2007 is installed incorrectly, please see the "Next steps" section.

If you have not yet installed the trial version of 2007 Microsoft Office

If you have not yet installed a trial version of Office Professional 2007 or Office Standard 2007, you can still try the other components of 2007 Microsoft Office. You can also decide to keep your existing version of Office and install Outlook 2007.

To keep the earlier version of Outlook

If you want to keep your current version of Outlook and try the other components of 2007 Microsoft Office, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Setup program for the trial version of the 2007 Office suite.
  2. Click Install. By default, Outlook 2007 will not be installed, and no additional tasks are necessary.
  3. Continue through the installation process and accept the defaults.

To install Outlook 2007

WARNING If you decide to install Outlook 2007, your current version of Outlook will be removed from your computer. If you do not have the installation disk for the version of Office that you are using now, you will be unable to reinstall that version of Outlook.

To remove the version of Outlook that you are currently using and install Outlook 2007, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Setup program for the trial version of the 2007 Office suite.
  2. When you are prompted, type your product key, and then click Next. (If you do not have a product key, click Next.)
  3. Click I accept the terms of this agreement, and then click Continue.
  4. Click Customize.

You may notice the following message on the Upgrade tab of the Setup program if you select the option to keep all earlier versions:
Before you install Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, you must remove any earlier version of Outlook. Two versions of Outlook cannot coexist on the same computer. If you want to keep an earlier version of Outlook, you must explicitly select on the Installation Options tab not to install Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
Note This message can be misleading. You do not have to remove earlier versions of Outlook manually. When you decide to install Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, earlier versions of Outlook will be removed automatically.
  5. On the Upgrade tab, click Remove only the following applications.
  6. Click to clear all the check boxes except the check box for Outlook. The Outlook check box should remain selected so that the earlier version of Outlook is removed.
  7. Click the Installation Options tab.
  8. Click the icon for Microsoft Office Outlook, and then click Run all from My Computer.
  9. Click Upgrade.
  10. Click Close.
If Outlook 2007 is installed correctly and is now running on your computer, you are finished. If Outlook 2007 is installed incorrectly, please see the "Next steps" section.
