Picture (Device Independent Bitmap)

This is what the Virtual Machine Icon Should Look Like

This is a tutorial on people who want to run Windows XP with Vista. It it not a duel boot for the PC or notebook. It can also run Mac if you have the CD for Mac and want to run vista and Mac. But i will only be showing how to put Windows XP since the performance is better on Vista for Windows XP.

Difficulty: Challenging

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

·       Search Google for Virtual Machine

·       Download the Virtual Machine program

·       Install the Virtual Machine Program

·       Most Importantly: Windows XP CD-Any Edition

1.      Step 1

Search Google for: Virtual Machine. Download and install the program into yr PC. All you have to do is run the standard installation process. It will be very easy if you read the terms and instructions during the installation.

2.      Step 2

After installation is finish, the program should open up a small box. Then click on new.

3.      Step 3

Another Box should open up and this is the installation for the Windows Xp. Click Next, Select the first box that says "Create a virtual machine, then click next. The next step is where your file will be, you can save it to your desktop to make things easier but usually you do not need to change it, click next. Operation System, choose Windows Xp on the drop down box then click next. Memory, I recommend adjusting the RAM, using 512 or in the range of 512 gives you the best performance, next. Virtual Hard Disk Options, DO NOT choose the first one click on "A new virtual hard disk", since this is the first time you do not need to use "An existing virtual hard disk" since there's nothing to use, next. Virtual Hard Disk Location, this just inform you of what you just chose in the last steps, next, FINISH, the box will close so you have to open up virtual machine again and this time you will see "New Virtual Machine" Not Running

4.      Step 4

Make sure you put in the Windows Xp CD but DO NOT run it. "New Virtual Machine" Not Running is highlighted and click start. A new box will open and it will try to read the CD, if it can't go to tab and click CD then choose "Use Physical Drive", then go to the tab and click "Action" choose "reset" at this point it will restart and it should be able to read the CD. The rest of the steps are basic installation of the standard installation for the Windows Xp.

5.      Step 5

Once everything is installed and finish you should be in the basic desktop screen. If the box is in full screen mode, Hold alt and hit enter. Now go to the tab "Action" and click "install or Update Virtual Machine Additions." This is let you minimize your Windows Xp box to go back and forth from Windows Xp and Vista. And that is how to install Windows Xp on Vista.
