Now how'd he say to do that again?

Transferring files from one computer to another can be easy...if you have a husband who already knows how or a teen!
For the electronically challenged like me, here are the steps to transferring files using a memory stick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

1.      Step 1

First you'll need a memory stick. These come in various sizes of storage capacity and are inexpensive.

You can buy a memory stick for you computer that hold 4G,(that a lot!),for 20 dollars of less. A 1G memory stick can be found for ten dollars or less. Most computers have two or more USB slots. These slots are on the side or back of your computer and the memory stick will only go in one way, so don't force it.

2.      Step 2

Put the memory stick into the USB port of the computer from which you are copying the file. A window will come up on your screen.(This is for windows users only XP and higher, don't know about Maces. You will have several choices. the one you want is "view files". Click this and a new window will open

This window will show what is already on the memory stick. If nothing is on the memory stick there will be empty. Mover this window to the side of your screen by clicking on the top of the screen and dragging it to the side.

3.      Step 3

Now push start and choose my documents, or documents. Your documents will come up in a window. Find the document you want to copy. Using your mouse, click, hold and drag it to the open window of the memory stick and let go.

Wa-la! You have transferred the file to the memory stick! Now go to the task bar at the bottom of you screen and find the icon of a memory stick being pulled out of your computer. Click on it.

Only after you have done this can you safely take out the memory stick.

4.      Step 4

Remove the memory stick from your computer.

You now have your copied file on the memory stick and are ready to transfer it to your other computer.

Place the memory stick in a USB port of the computer you want to transfer the file to. A window will come up. Choose "open files".
Another widow will come up showing the file on the memory stick. Double click on the icon for the file and it will open. Click on file and then save as, and name your file.
